Job Description
Lecturers are responsible for delivering lectures, guiding students, conducting research, and engaging in various administrative and community activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Responsibilities:
Departmental Duties: Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and activities, contributing to the academic governance of the institution.
Program Coordination: Assist in coordinating academic programs, including scheduling, student registration, and liaising with administrative staff.
Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance processes, including course evaluations, peer reviews, and accreditation activities.
Community and Professional Engagement:
Industry Collaboration: Engage with industry professionals and organizations to integrate practical insights into teaching and research.
Public Engagement: Participate in community outreach activities, public lectures, and consultancy work to share your expertise and contribute to society.
Professional Development: Stay current with developments in your field through continuous learning, attending workshops, and pursuing further qualifications if necessary.
Continuous Professional Development:
Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance your teaching, research, and academic leadership skills.
Certification and Membership: Maintain active membership in relevant professional bodies and pursue certifications if applicable.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Advanced Degree: Typically, a Ph.D. in the relevant field is required. A Master's degree may be acceptable, especially in applied fields, but a Ph.D. is often preferred or required for career progression.
Specialization: Demonstrable expertise in the subject area you will be teaching, supported by relevant academic and/or professional experience.
Teaching Experience:
Academic Experience: Previous teaching experience at the university or college level is highly desirable, with a proven track record of effective teaching and student engagement.
Course Development: Experience in developing and delivering academic courses or modules is advantageous.
Research and Publication:
Research Record: A strong record of research and publications in reputable academic journals is essential, particularly for those in research-intensive institutions.
Research Interests: Active research interests in areas relevant to the subject matter you will be teaching.
Grants and Funding: Experience in securing research grants and funding is a plus.
Professional Experience:
Industry Experience: Practical experience in the relevant field, particularly in applied disciplines, can be an asset, as it brings practical insights into the academic environment.
Certifications: Relevant professional certifications or qualifications may be required, depending on the field of study.
