Job Description
Background:
Global Health Uganda (GHU) is a registered not for profit, limited liability company with the mission to promote child health by conducting and facilitating quality and relevant research in child health, neurodevelopment and interventions. In collaboration with, Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda and Indiana University, GHU is conducting a study entitled ‘Severe Malaria and Risk to the Brain (SMART Brain)’. This study will be conducted at Jinja Regional Referral hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identify and screen patients (including reviewing laboratory results) for possible enrolment into the study according to the protocol.
Obtain informed consent from caregivers of eligible participants as per protocol in accordance with GCP and HSP principles.
Counsel and explain study procedures to caregivers of study participants.
Work with study Medical Officer to enrol eligible participants into the study to meet the study accrual targets.
Complete study CRFs, correctly and accurately in compliance with trial procedures/ SOPs and GCP standards.
Ensure study participants’ safety and privacy, data integrity and confidentiality.
Provide emergency nursing care for study participants as per protocol.
Participate in routine clinical care of non-study participants on the wards.
Participate in collection of appropriate study samples/specimens from study participants as per protocol and SOPs, ensuring that the samples are sent to the appropriate labs.
Carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisors in line with your work.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies
Degree in Nursing (registered Nurse) or its equivalent, and registered with the relevant national bodies.
Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and Research Ethics training, such as human subject protection (HSP) – with certificates.
Previous work in a clinical research environment is an added advantage
Fluent in verbal and written English, as well as the local language (site specific: Lusoga respectively).

Self-discipline, time management, and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task, and working well in a team.
willingness to live and work in a rural environment
