The Uganda Communications Commission is the government regulatory body of the communications sector in Uganda. Although owned by the Ugandan government, it acts independently.
Job Description
Prepare and review the Commission's legal cases, instruments, and documents, and conduct research to provide advice that protects the Commission's interests, particularly the Commission's licensing mandate.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct research and provide legal opinions on issues relating to the Commission's operations.
Prepare contracts/agreements and legal documents/instruments arising from the operations of the Commission.
Provide input into proposed regulatory frameworks and guidelines as deemed necessary for the effective regulation of the sector.
Correspond with license applicants regarding their license application processes.
Participate in the review and negotiations of licenses, agreements, and processes leading to the resolution of disputes.
Attend court sessions on behalf of the Commission, representing its interests in legal proceedings.
Prepare management papers for license applications for publication in the national print media.
Manage the performance and development of subordinate staff.
Maintain flexibility to accommodate any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualification, Experiences and Competencies

Turn around time to review and finalize contracts.
Time taken to respond to and resolve regulatory investigations.
Compliance with corporate governance standards.
Education and Professional Qualifications
Master's degree in law
Bachelor's degree in law
Diploma in legal practice; and an enrolled advocate of the High Court of Uganda
Working Experience
Minimum of four (4) years' experience in legal practice in a similar corporate setting.
