The scholarship program is designed to support young individuals between the ages of 15 to 25 who have completed their secondary education but face barriers to furthering their studies. The program is particularly focused on women, individuals with disabilities, and refugees, who often encounter significant obstacles in accessing higher education.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship will have the opportunity to pursue a Higher Education Access Certificate and engage in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). These avenues are critical in equipping the youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the modern workforce.
To ensure the success of the scholarship recipients, the program includes an Extended Orientation Program, Gender Responsive Pedagogy Training, Mentorship, and Entrepreneurship support. These components are integral to the holistic development of the students, preparing them not just academically, but also socially and professionally.
The Mastercard Foundation’s partnership with FAWE Uganda is part of a broader commitment to the African continent. Having already completed a successful ten-year phase, the program is now entering a new seven-year phase, expanding its reach to 10 countries across Africa. The impact of the first phase has been profound, with many participants completing their education and securing gainful employment.
The announcement of the 1,800 scholarships is a call to action for young Ugandans who aspire to transform their lives through education. It is an invitation to be part of a program that has already changed the lives of many and promises to continue doing so for years to come.
